About Me
I have been a runner for almost 30 years now and my goal is to enjoy more running with no pressures so that I can prevent problems and injury and then hopefully run an ultramarathon. I am thrilled to be able to gently train people of all ages, so that they become excellent healthy well-versed runners and not have to go through mistakes like I encountered along the way. Most of all I want YOU to see me as a good coach that will give individualized attention, advise and happiness that you can think about on your runs.
My Story
I was 14 years old and small for my age… I tried out for some of my favorite sports in high school, but never made them. I chalked it up to being too small and shy, so I thought I would start something that didn’t require height and that anybody could join. I was always very active and eager and thought running might be fun. So this is when my running career started, I joined the cross-country team. I didn't really enjoy it very much, because the coach just sent us out running and didn't give us any information on how to start running or any inspirational praises or tips. I remember running with this guru type pack that seemed to be elite runners and thinking this isn't for me. They all ran faster never got tired and I was quickly seeing how sorely I was a member of this team. I kept thinking I would never do well. I stuck it out though and ended up not doing too badly. The coach ignored the team members that were shy or never placed and gave lots of attention to the elite’s. That is when I decided to go it on my own. So I started running at night and on weekends and I ended up loving running so much it became my life. I am so glad I didn't take with me the negative experience that I had from the start on that cross-country team or I never would of been a runner. I may never of been as thin as I am, as happy as I am or have such good health!
I believe the type of training you receive plays a very big part of the type of runner you become. If you receive training that is too pressured and negative, you may walk away from running with a negative experience and never continue to enjoy the wonderful benefits running has. Running all by it self became a life time commitment for me and I feel that is what has kept me so centered in life. Although I count myself lucky because I didn’t succumb to the negative experience I received in cross-country, but instead I set out to train on my own and learned the hard way. Occasionally I've had to hang up the shoes because of an injury and improper training. Through trail and error I have learned how to prevent injury and have fun. What I have learned most from running is that listening to my body and the messages it sends is the most valuable tool.
